Welcome to Andover Angling Club

Andover Angling Club control two lakes - Foxcotte in Charlton and Anton Lake in the Nature reserve.

Foxcotte is a 45 peg, 2½ acre lake that has been controlled by the AAC since the mid 1950s. The lake holds stocks of mirror and common carp up to 27lb, crusians up to 3lb and pike up to 25lb. There are currently smaller numbers of bream and tench due to the toxic algae bloom in May 2005. Perch go to around 2lb and the lake has a good head of roach to 2lb. There are also eels.

Many pegs have wooden platforms that make easy access for disabled anglers, and car parking for 20 cars is adjacent to the lake. There is also a cafe (with toilet facilities) that is open all year round. More information can be found here. See Foxcotte on Google Earth here.

Information on Membership and day tickets can be found here.

Update From The Committee (08/09/10)

After several years as Head Bailiff, Maurice Giles has decided to take a back seat. After a recent bout of ill health Maurice has handed over the reins to Peter Curry. Maurice will continue as a bailiff on the rota and stay a committee member. Peter will now be in overall charge of the Bailiffs for both Foxcotte and Anton lakes. The committee thanks Maurice for all his hard work over the years and are presenting him with a Gold card lifetime membership to the club for his upcoming retirement.

Also at this month's committee meeting another vacancy was filled. Keith Theobald has taken on the job of assistant match secretary. Keith will be helping Barry Giles organise the matches and assisting with all other duties e.g. points, monies and match group. The committee welcome Keith on board.

It's coming to the end of a better summer for the club - the committee have worked hard on work parties to keep Foxcotte's pegs fishable. Over half of the lake is now fishing well for bream, skimmers, tench, perch and roach. The carp fishing has been a little harder this year with many of the wiley old fellers hiding in the weed on bungalow bank.

With the weather on the change and the top sluice now being a trickle rather than fast flowing, weed is beginning to die off and the lake has seen a little colour for the first time this season.

After the recent match weights at Foxcotte, day ticket sales have been on the increase and anglers have been targeting bream and tench. We have also seen a rise in pike anglers through the summer with many having good catches. Club member Shane Close has the biggest recorded to date with a 22lb specimen fish.

Anton lake has also been fishing quite well with day ticket sales again up through the summer. Pike and bream have been the target species for most.

Pike fishing is usually from October onwards on many lakes, but on Foxcotte and Anton its all year round. The fish have been attracted to big lures this summer with more caught on cast and retrieve of a lure than on dead baits. As the weather changes and fish become more lathargic, dead baits will come into play once again.
